Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the food and nutritional security (SAN) conditions of family farmers of the Santa Helena Sustainable Development Project (PDS), located in the city of São Carlos, in the state of São Paulo. The case study was carried out with 14 PDS families, through interviews and semi-structured forms. The food (in)security of the families was identified by the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale (EBIA) and the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) Index for the SAN of family farmers. The results point to an awareness and environmental preservation of families regarding the destination of garbage; The diversified and own production for self-consumption (92%); (57% of the National School Feeding Program - PNAE and Food Acquisition Program - PAA); Satisfaction with technical assistance offered; A prevalence of food security (57%) and food insecurity (43%) in families, obtained by the EBIA, the PDS being characterized by a moderate index of SAN by the UFSCar Index.
