Abstract

Due to the importance of coffee to the Brazilian economy, as the world’s largest producer and exporter of coffee, studies with a focus on competitiveness in the sector deserve special mention. In this sense, the research aims to analyze the doctoral theses related to the competitiveness approach inserted in the context of coffee. A bibliometric research was conducted based on the CAPES Thesis and Dissertation Bank, and subsequent content analysis. From the search criteria and filters, resulted in a portfolio composed of 20 theses related to competitiveness and coffee. From the results obtained the relevance of the technology with the desire to identify new possibilities to improve competitiveness with the introduction of the system of densified planting, the use of drip irrigated system, organic coffee and agrochemical, mechanization and computerization to modernize the crop. The Institutional Environment aspect, such as tariff protection mechanisms, export, import and the comparison of competitiveness among countries, as well as the incidence of taxes. In addition, the focus of management and inputs and infrastructure were present, such as the analysis of business networks, interference of climatic factors, carbon stock in the soil and the flow of greenhouse gases in coffee cultivation.
