Evaluation of zootechnical and economic indicators in milk production systems

Abstract

The objective was technical and economic efficiency evaluate of the milk-production systems assisted by the Dairy Cattle Farming Development Program in the region of Viçosa city (Programa de Desenvolvimento da Pecuária Leiteira, PDPL-RV). Technical and economic indicators of the two milk-production systems assisted by the Program were evaluated. The technical and economical data of the evaluated properties were collected monthly from May 1988 to April 2012, by descriptive analysis of the productive characteristics and technical and economical indices, as well as of the annual growth rates of the indicators. The Água Limpa Farm, milk yield had an annual growth of 15% in the period from 1988 to 2012, increasing from 6,984.64 to 180,544 L per year. The gross income of the dairy activity grew 10% per year, increasing from R$ 19,895.61 to R$ 186,589.80. The Nô da Silva Farm, the annual milk yield increased by 10% per year, rising from 152.186 to 1,495.038 L/year. The gross income of the dairy activity increased from R$ 268,520.52 to R$ 1,500,621.17 per year, with an increase of 7.8% per year. The two production systems analysed were able to become competitive and proving that the activity of milk is attractive and profitable.
