Abstract

This study aims to analyze the competitiveness of sugarcane industries producing ethanol and sugar in the southern state of Goiás, Brazil in 2013. This study also evaluated the level of competitiveness of industries and compared them with each other, using the methodology of Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM), proposed by Monke and Pearson, in 1989. The study took into consideration production costs of agricultural and industrial linkages for plants of the same size. The results indicated that the two products are quite competitive and efficient, demonstrating that, with some adjustments, public policies developed for the two products can further contribute to the competitiveness of both.
