Innovation and technology in the productive arrangement of beekeeping in northeastern state of Pará

Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the determinant factor dimensions of innovation and technology of beekeeping in Northeastern state of Pará, Brazil, as long as to characterize the beekeepers, according to the innovation and technology index, in the municipalities of Capitão Poço, Igarapé-Açu and Ourém. Therefore, the following methods were used: factor and cluster analysis. Through factor analysis, two factors were obtained: technological aspects; and innovative and information aspects. This analysis also allowed the construction of the Index of Innovation and Technology. As for the groups formed based on the calculated index, in Pará there are many beekeepers in the group of low levels of innovation and technology, thereby most producers showed a reduced propensity to use such principractices. It was concluded that the local productive arrangement of beekeeping in northeastern Pará has a low level of technology and innovation, which is an obstacle to the development of this activity.
