Market structure and performance: analysis of industry rice in Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze aspects structure and the performance the rice industry in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, from 2000 to 2006, using as reference the paradigm Structure-Conduct-Performance model, of the Industrial Organization Theory. Thus, used data on production, export, import and production cost of rice. The data were processed using Software Statistica 7.0 and Excel. The results demonstrated that rice industry in state very is decentralized. Their level of competitiveness lies between the most efficient producers rice in country. To reach new markets, increase its competitiveness and performance, all sectors the productive chain must work together for implementation action for the chain as a whole.
