Multifactor productivity in the food manufacturing of the south region

Abstract

This work deals to the analyzis of the multifactor productivity index for the food manufacturing of South region from Brazil. To do it, the PIA, published by IBGE was used, for the years of 1996 and 2005. By using these data, it was possible to show the importancy of food manufacturing to South region, as well as its participation for this region exportation. Following to that, the approximation of Tornquivst indeed metodology was used to calculate the productivity. It was verified that food manufactoring, besides its importance to exportations from South region, it’s also important to generate employment and showed itself productive and with perspective of growing of productivity on the following years, once that the multifactor productivity index in 2004 and 2005 has a growing perspective in subsequence periods.
