The 20 largest markets worldwide importers of agricultural and agro-industrial products

Abstract

The aim of this work is to identify the world’s 20 largest import markets of agricultural and agro-industrial products. Therefore, a list of the 20 largest importers of these products during the year 2007 was utilized, and 10 economic, financial and social indicators were applied in order to obtain a classification of the most interesting markets concerning imports. The data was collected from: the Analysis System of Exterior Commerce Information, of the Office of Exterior Commerce; United Nations Commodity Trade Statistics Data Base (Contrade); World Economic Out Look Data Base, of the International Monetary Fund; Doing Business, of the World Bank; and United Nations Program for Development. The results indicated a list with the 20 most interesting world markets as a way to prioritize exports of the mentioned products, in the present and the future.
