This text analyzes important socioeconomic information about family farming in the Central West Region of Brazil in the 2001–2005 period, particularly the phenomenon of plural activity. According to tabulated microdata of the National Household Sample Survey’s (Pnad), the items approached were: growth in the number of agricultural and plural active families in family farming; evolution of the mean number of people in these families; evolution of the mean number of active people in these families; and evolution and composition of the familiar income of these families. The outcomes reinforce the importance of family farming and of plural activity in the region, underscoring the need for inclusion of these families in sustainable development public policies.
