Abstract

This article is an analysis on the Brazilian economic development: retrogresses and advances from 1950 to 2008. In the Brazilian economy, there are periodic fluctuations attributed, in great part, to the energy crisis and to the balance of payments crisis. The analysis warns of risks of possible decisions to freeze the exchange rate and credit liquidation and how these decisions impact agriculture, especially through the correction of distortions, provoking and accumulating passives in this sector. The analysis concludes that growth depends on research, on accumulation of knowledge and on innovation, that the government must prioritize its action in typical governmental tasks so that Brazil comes to grow at higher rates than the current ones.
