For resilient family farming and low carbon emissions
Keywords:

The increasing impact of climate change on society has contributed to intensifying the debate on the role of the agricultural sector in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the necessary adaptive measures in the sector. Brazil has mobilized efforts to respond to this challenge, such as the ABC+ Plan. Despite the advances, family farming, which represented 76.8% of agricultural establishments in 2017, has been marginalized. In this context, the objective of this study is to reflect on the meaning of low-carbon family farming. The results indicate that low-carbon farming should be understood as that which incorporates ecological criteria associated with mitigation, capture and storage of carbon and adaptation to climate change, together with agronomic and economic criteria, into decision-making and management of production systems. For low-carbon family farming, this work concludes that it is only necessary to include the defining criteria for family farming in Brazil, established by Law No. 11,326/2006.Downloads
