Abstract

The objective of this paper was to identify the main producers, sellers and buyers of Brazilian sugarcane and its derivatives disaggregated by market segment size and product. This analysis focused on all supply-side actors and included mills, refineries, distributors, and traders. This research was of the descriptive type and the documental research technique was adopted as a methodological procedure. The analysis and interpretation of the results was organized in two parts, in which the first presents the main producers and sellers of Brazilian sugarcane and its derivatives. The second presents the main buyers of Brazilian sugarcane and its derivatives, disaggregated into sugar, ethanol (biofuel) and ethanol for other purposes. On the production perspective, due to climate and soil conditions, Midwest Region has been gaining prominence, although the state of São Paulo remains as the main producing region. From the sugarcane buyer point of view, the market behavior is related to the purpose for which this raw material will be used, as well as sugar, ethanol (biofuel) or ethanol for other uses. There is still the geographical concentration of the buyers, reinforcing the role of logistics.
