Abstract

This paper analyzed the productive dynamics of soybean and cattle production expansion in relation to corn (1st and 2nd crops) and rice areas in 22 microregions of Mato Grosso state, Brazil. The study highlights crop substitutions and the increase of agricultural funding for defrayal and investment in the state, which coincides with the increase of soybean and cattle exports. For the analysis of agricultural dynamics, the shift-share method was used to evaluate the effects in three different periods: 2003-2008, 2009-2013, and 2013-2018. The greatest advancement occurred in the period after 2008 for soybean and corn (2nd crop) over the rice and corn (1st crop) areas. The income effect was the driver of the advancement in the microregions of Alto Teles Pires, Aripuana, Sinop, and Rondonópolis. The microregions that advanced for the production of soybean and 2nd crop corn were also those with the greatest income effect on cattle.
