Abstract

The Southern Agricultural Council (CAS) has contributed to the consolidation of Brazilian applications to international organizations. However, there is a gap in international agricultural policy studies for the CAS’s role as an instrument of global governance. Therefore, this article aimed to discuss and analyze how CAS has acted in the success of Brazilian international candidacies. For that, a qualitative study was carried out, with basis on a literature review of agricultural policies and international relations, as well as an analysis of data from several international organizations regarding their application processes. The analysis allowed of the identification of five successful candidacies that had the support of the CAS, which shows that regional instruments of global governance can play a leading role in the international scenario.
