Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the competitiveness of the crop succession soybean-winter maize and soybean-cotton in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, from 2007/2008 to 2016/2017. For this purpose, documents published by Embrapa Agropecuária Oeste and Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab) were used, containing information on production costs, productivity data and market prices. The results presented by the crops, individually, are positive. However, the net margins provided by maize are lower than the other crops. The succession analyzed are economically viable, once net income is positive. However, the soybean-cotton succession is the one with the best economic result because it presents a high net margin over the period.
