Occupation and income in the rural environment of Paraná State

The economy of the Paraná State is based on the agricultural sector. Since the 1960s, the rural environment of Paraná has undergone changes in the technical-agricultural base, resulting from the modernization of agriculture, with important implications in the occupations and income of the people living there. In this context, the aim of this study was to verify the trends of variation in occupation and income of the economically active population (EAP) in the Paraná State, according to residence (rural and urban) and activity sector (agricultural and off-agricultural) for the period 2011-2015. For this purpose, the National Household Sample Survey data, from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). To verify the trends of the population subgroups present in the occupied EAP, the mean annual variation rates were calculated using Student’s t-test using a least squares regression with log-linear form. From the results, it was verified an advance of the rural EAP occupied in off-agricultural activity in Paraná. In addition, there was a decline of the restricted rural occupied EAP with agricultural activity. Also, it was possible to verify that, in the year 2012, the impormonthly income of the main work of the rural occupied EAP with non-agricultural activity exceeded the monthly income of the rural occupied EAP with agricultural activity.Downloads
