Abstract

From 2006 agricultural census and research in Brazilian settlements, there has been low incomes and high inequality within the small agricultural brazilian production. In addition to structural and related to public management factors, it is necessary a review of the mediation work, especially related to rural extension and accompanying actions and development projects. We seek to establish a dialogue between economics and the social sciences, with emphasis on Olivier de Sardan approach linked to development anthropology. We conclude by suggesting the need to discuss the theoretical and methodological approaches often used in these situations, seeking thereby shed light on prevalent social processes within mediation that influence the achievement of development actions.
