Producer profile and evaluation of PNPB in Rio Verde

Abstract

The objective of this study was through a case study, know about the family farmer profile of Rio Verde - Goiás, Brazil, entered into the National Program for Production and Use of Biodiesel (PNPB) and its evaluation. This research had the participation of 43 family farmers in Rio Verde entered PNPB, which were defined from a non-probability intentional sample. It was found that family farms of Rio Verde have a different profile compared to some regions of the country or even within the state itself, in which, among other factors, has the soybean crop as a traditional activity. It found the increase in rents out the property as well as the pluriactivity of families, and that financing are for many, essential. Finally, there was a perception of improved quality of life by these farmers after their inclusion in the program, although they have raised various problems in their processes.
