Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the competitiveness of exports of mango and grape Submédio of the São Francisco Valley. Therefore, it was made use of Constant-Market-Share method (CMS) between the years 2003-2011 and the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index Vollrath (RCAV) between the years 2003 to 2013. The results indicated that both the manga as the grape had revealed comparative advantage for the entire period analyzed, leaving out the grapes had higher indicators throughout the period. Regarding the sources of growth of exports of mango and grape, in the first and second sub-periods, the effect competitiveness was the most contributed to the exports of these fruits, from the third sub-period, the effect that most contributed to the growth of mango exports was the end effect, while for the grape the competitiveness effect remained the effect that most contributed to the growth of its exports. Thus, the results showed that despite the fluctuations in the magnitude of the effects and except for the last subperiod for the mango, the competitiveness effect was the most boosted exports of these fruits in the period.
