Abstract

Given the importance of soybean and maize production to the economy of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and its dependence on climatic factors, this study aimed to estimate the likelihood of adverse climatic events in the cities of Dourados and Chapadão do Sul, highlight the impacts on productivity and verify the periods of sowing of crops are best suited. Using the method of Poisson Distribution, it was found that exposure to climate risks, such as dry spells and frost differs between regions and influences on productivity, which justifies the adoption of strategies that minimize. However, we found that the public policy of the current crop insurance can be favoring the regions less affected by climate adversities.
