Agricultural modernization in the state of Paraná

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the agricultural modernization of all the municipalities and the 10 mesoregions located in the state of Paraná. The methodological procedure used was the analysis factor in conjunction with the formation of the analytical index. All data were collected from the 2006 Censo Agropecuário (IBGE, 2006). After the formation of the factors, the Agricultural Modernization Index was calculated for all municipalities and subsequently grouped into their mesoregions. The results showed that 54.64% of the Paraná municipalities indicated a low agricultural modernization, while 41.85% indicated a medium level and only 3.51% showed a high degree of modernization. In addition, the results showed that seven mesoregions present an average level of modernization and three demonstrated a low modernization level. Therefore, an inequality was evidenced when analyzing the Agricultural Modernization Index in Paraná.
