Production and trading of fruits from Cerrado in Minas Gerais

Abstract

In Brazil, the Cerrado biome stands out as the second largest national biome, showing a great diversity of potentially viable products for economic exploitation. This work aimed at studying the production and trading of fruits from the Cerrado biome, in state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, seeking to obtain subventions in order to facilitate the process of implementation of public policies for human development and social inclusion. In the study, 96 semi-structured interviews were carried out with subjects and organizations involved in the production chain of Cerrado fruits. The results allowed identifying the main production areas and the trading flows, highlighting the differences between the regions of this state. On the other hand, they also displayed the potential of these fruits as a way of complementing the income of small farmers from the different regions of the state.
