Dinâmica de uso da terra em resposta à expansão da cana-deaçúcar no Cerrado

Abstract

The food needs of a growing and urbanizing population with rising incomes and the strong projected growth in demand for biofuels, driven by environmental and political reasons, will intensify the ongoing debate on the food-versus-fuel land-use decisions. In this article, we discuss the relevance of the arguments behind this debate considering global-, country- and localscales and their possible effects on the development of the Cerrado region and on the advance of the agricultural frontier toward the Amazon.
