Abstract

This study estimated the potential impact of scaling up biological phosphate solubilization (BPS) in soybean cultivation in Brazil. Under the hypothesis that BPS drives sustainable agriculture by combining productivity gains and cost efficiency, experimental data were compared with parameters from agricultural promotion public policies. The results indicate that the diffusion of this technology has the potential to generate, per harvest: i) an increase of up to BRL 28.5 billion in soybean production value; ii) savings of up to BRL 15.7 billion from reduced chemical fertilizer use; and iii) an emissions reduction equivalent to up to BRL 1 billion in carbon mitigation benefits. This is the first study to evaluate both the economic gains from SBF and the decarbonization gains in agriculture.
