This article analyzes the sanitary protocol known as “boi-China” and its effects on the organization of Brazilian livestock production. Adopting an exploratory and descriptive approach, the study systematizes information regarding the criteria required by the Chinese market and the productive responses induced in Brazil. It is argued that, although initially configured as a non-tariff barrier, the protocol generated economic incentives that prompted changes in management practices, traceability, and sanitary compliance. The analysis seeks to contribute to the understanding of the interactions between commercial requirements and productive adaptation strategies in agricultural markets.
