Abstract

This study aims to expand the understanding of the grain storage scenario in Goiás in 2021. Specifically, its contribution focuses on addressing a gap in the literature regarding the municipal availability of warehouses, allowing a more detailed analysis of the relationship between production and static storage capacity. Goiás is the third-largest grain-producing state in Brazil, with a harvest forecast of approximately 25.6 million metric tons for the 2021/2022 crop season and a static storage capacity of 14.57 million metric tons. This outlook indicates a deficit of 11.03 million metric tons, representing 43% of total production. This scenario becomes even more critical when observing the significant spatial heterogeneity in warehouse distribution among the state’s main grain-producing municipalities. In part, this disparity is justified by the concentration of grain production in the Eastern, Southeastern, and Southwestern regions of the state. Furthermore, the Southeastern region registers a lower storage capacity relative to its production volume, exposing risks to commercialization efficiency and regional agricultural competitiveness.
