Abstract

This article presents an overview of the production chain of table tomato in the Distrito Federal (DF), Brazil, illuminating its hierarchical economic and decision-making relationships on technology adoption. The characterization of table tomato production in the DF was carried out in accordance with the Brazilian agricultural census of 2017. Interviews were also performed. Although the interviews showed that most agricultural establishments had a good technological level, their adoption of the set of good agricultural practices is low. They also suggested that in the production chain of table tomato in the DF, the agricultural input industry is an economic agent that plays a very strong role in relation to the adoption of technologies by producers. Finally, this article presents the hypothesis that the producers´ strength may decrease in face of the strength that retail companies will have, if the vegetable traceability system is be consolidated in the Distrito Federal.
